The Wrong End of the Story by Julad and Calico
Series: Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Submitted by: PatK
Rec ID: 00744
Jim, Blair, a life-threatening situation and the power of words. Subtle horror, not of the blood-splattering kind, more of the "What is real?"-sort.
Leap of Faith by Legion

A long post TSbyBS story about the power of love. A little horror, a little supernatural.

Summary by the author: An enemy too powerful for even a Sentinel to battle is after Blair, and Jim does the only thing he can think of to save his partner. It works, but the cost was everything that was his to give - even his name and his friendship with Blair.

Author's summary: "In a society where Sentinels are prized, and the inferior status of Guides is enshrined in law, Sentinel Jim Ellison doesn't want to Bond. His rental Guide isn't allowed to."
As far as this particular kind of AUs go, it's the best canonical characterization I've read so far. A long, carefully plotted, thrilling story, full of angst and emotions and a very satisfying read.

Fic URL leads to the index-page where you find an absolutely gorgeous piece of artwork done by Lorraine Brevig for this story. Make sure to click on the picture to get the full version. Yes, it's a slash-picture but not a very explicite one.

Long, well written case story that also shows the development of Blair's and Jim's relationship into becoming a couple. Very good characterization of the guys, well done OCs that add to the scenery but do not take over the story. If you look for a slash case story that shows *both*, a thrilling case *and* the guy's relationship, this is the story to read.
Perpetual Rain by Legion

Author's summary: "Jim and Blair patrol Cascade on a rainy night."

This story is difficult to comment on without spoiling it. There's a warning at the end of the story and if you read it, it will spoil some of the effect. OTOH, if you need warnings read it, it's absolutely up to you.

A wonderful example how to give informations on a story without turning it into an info dump. It's full of details that - if read and interpreted carefully - reveals the whole background slowly until you get the whole creepy, heartwrenching picture.

Wonderfully written, great characterization, a story that's not simply for consuming but requires a little thinking on the reader's side and leaves you - perhaps - a little sniffing and - for sure - loving the guys for what they are.

There's a later written sequel called "Simon and the Rain", also at the 852 archive, but the original can stand alone perfectly as well.

A long, involved, thrilling "Sentinels and Guides"-AU that will have you at the edge of your seat until the end. Sentinel and Cop Jim Ellison doesn't want a Guide but is forced by Simon and the regulations to take one, temporarily, as Jim is stating adamantly. He chooses Sandburg but Blair isn't your usual, "run of the mill" Guide, quite the contrary and soon things start to become problematic. Circumstands don't look good for them and it gets worse when one of Jim's co-workers discovers the state of the affair and wants to do what an upstanding cop in this universe has to do.

There doesn't seem to be a way out...
Have you seen this man by Legion
Series: Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair

When Jim is caught in an explosion, Blair doesn't know if his partner is still alive and goes looking for him, determined either to find Jim or his body. Whenever Blair finds a person who knows something about Jim, the scene switches to Jim and we see in flashbacks what he did and what happened. The two time-lines converge until Blair finds...

Legion really has their voices down and draws a wonderful "close to canon" picture of the characters.
