The Double Cross by many
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Sirius/Seamus Neville/Percy Fred/George ect.
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00567
Online Harry Potter RPG. Long, complicated, ongoing. Surprisingly good, although it varies from place to place. The basic premise: Voldemort won the war. Now an underground resistance runs around being angsty and dramatic. Some rather dark bits, some really funny bits, and one of my favorite romances ever. Assasin!Sirius and Crazy!Seamus are perfect together.

wherein a potion is screwed up
very, very badly, dumbledore has a red bed, bravery is everything, and, hmmm, this reads a lot like...
Unlikely Heroes by Khirsah
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Percy/Neville
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00569
Neville and Percy become friends. Very, very good friends. Percy does something stupid. Very, very stupid. He suffers for it. Very, very much. But not as much as Neville.
Khirsah is one of the best authors I've run across, and she know her characters like she was the one that went to school with them. This is very sweet and very angsty.
Drawing Down the Moon by Ailei and Khirsah
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Remus/Sirius
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00570
Authors' Notes: "This is not sweet, fluffy Remus/Sirius. When Khirsah and I tackled the Remus/Sirius dynamic we were pretty much motivated by a unilateral hatred of a neutered Remus and Sirius. Bleh. Yes, they're so sweet. They're so gentle. They don't fuck, they fade to black. And if they do fuck (oh, wait, they don't fuck, they *make love*), they're kind, and considerate, and Sirius tops. What-thefuck-ever. This series has its sweet moments, but it's central themes are very dark. Remus struggles with his lycanthropy, and with sexual abuse. Sirius goes through hell in the process of loving Remus. And when they fuck, they *fuck*."
And when Ailei says dark, she means *dark*. But if you like intense, this is the story for you.
Sea and Sky by 'rith and Dannell Lites

Long series of stories set in the modern comicverse. Lots of side stories featuring other characters from the DC comics.
Absurdly Simple by Irene Adler
Series: Sherlock Holmes

Holmes is investigating a blackmail case and won't tell Watson who the client is; Watson does a little digging and finds out a lot of stuff he really should have known already.
The Very Secret Diaries of Cassandra Claire by Cassandra Claire

V. funny. Must read. The mother of all LOTR slash fic. Besides, Sam will kill you if you don't.
Promise by Cimorene
Series: Lord of the Rings
Pairing: Legolas/Gimli
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00574
"Legolas comes to terms with what he wants, though it's hard to believe." The language in this is just lovely. Many try for a Tolken-esk feel. This one suceeds
Barleywine by Ailei
Series: Lord of the Rings
Pairing: Merry/Pippin
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00575
Set before the boys go off with Gandalf. The perils of safety. SO sweet.
Wizard and Warrior by DevilKat
Series: Original
Pairing: OC/OC
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00576
Basically, it's simple. 8-) Keith and Carson are the reincarnation of the ultimate wizard and warrior; they've been yanked into the alternate reality that is going to need them for something desperately heroic once they gain their full powers. They've been somewhat physically changed to adapt to this new environment. It's almost an elaborate version of those Ultima computer games where a modern-day guy was pulled into a fantasy world, except, uh, they screw a lot. They are two California boys originally. Now they're something other. WIP

The Quicken Tree by Agtant
Series: Original
Pairing: OC/OC
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00577
A gay love story set against the background of the international horse show competitions of dressage and three day eventing. Unfinished; doesn't look like it's going to be. Still, it's worth the trouble.
The Life of Puppets by Red Jester

A spirit of brotherhood by torch
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: pre-slash; Sirius/Remus/Severus

Tea, nightshirts, and blood. A magical variation on the old 'handcuff them together until they fall in love' trick.
apogee by llamajoy
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Sirius/Remus

The game is Sardines, but Remus is playing mental hide-and-seek...
Simple MWPP fic - nothing fancy, just great writing.
burn forever with your name by llamajoy
Series: bakuretsu hunter
Pairing: Carrot/Marron
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00583
angst, untold secrets, gratuitous squashiness, exceedingly thin and random plot devices, flashbacks, voyeuristic intentions, self-gratification, a love triangle, first time eyetrembling, all in one convenient package! oh yeah, and some brothersmut, too. ^_^ enjoy.
To Catch A Carrot by Tenshi
Series: bakuretsu hunter
Pairing: Marron/Carrot
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00584
Author's Warning: DANGER BOY SEX INCEST DRAG HOLY SHIT YES I SAID INCEST!!! WARNING!!!
That aside, this is a sweet and fluffy little fic. Tenshi's fics always reads like a character study, and she has Carrot and Marron spot on. Really fleshes out a fairly cliche situation into a real fic.
the infamous Final Fantasy VIII arc by Tenshi no Korin and llamajoy
Series: Final Fantasy VIII
Pairing: Squall/Seifer, Squall/Zell, Seifer/Fuu
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00588
One continous storyline, both authors - this is a massive arc of sort of self-contained fics. As always, Tenshi and llamajoy write thoughful, poetic stories. A certain amount of action contrasts with backstage angst. Worth reading the 40+ (!) stories in this. And their stand-alones. And their humorfics. Hell, just read everything on their site. You'll be glad you did.
A Rare Descent by shalott
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00614
This is the first in this series - A Rare Descent, Passing Through, The Eleventh Doorkeeper, and The Seasonless World. They all blow me away. This is not a happy series, but it is totally beautiful. The way shalott writes the magic in this gives you a sense of the depth of the mythology behind this. The slash is fairly vague, and after they... fall in love? connect? Harry and Draco spend the rest of the series apart. However, their relationship is, despite the lack of overt refrences, the center of these stories. This series breaks my heart. The angst is so well done. I can't say this enough - absolutely beautiful tragedy.
Unfortunatly, the series doesn't seem to be finished. Not a cliffhanger, but certainly not resolved. I know everyone hates stalled works-in-progress, but this one is worth it.
The Trouble with Childhood Songs by Kickflaw
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Remus/Sirius
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00615
This is a little coming-out scene that deals beatifully with the subject. Remus' sister makes a great character. The contrast between her reaction and Remus' parents' makes clear how realitive these kinds of values are, how much a product of society we are. Really lovely.
Everything to Everyone by Kimague
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Percy/Oliver
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00616
What if Percy really didn't want to work at the Ministry? Percy's always been an outsider... Oliver helps him figure out what he wants.
Secret Handshakes by Suki
Series: The West Wing
Pairing: Ainsley/CJ
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00617
Subtle, and intellegent, like WW fic should be. CJ and Ainsley clear up some issues. The sequel, A Dressing Down, picks up where this leaves off. It is also very hot. Woo.
Revelations by Suki
Series: West Wing
Pairing: Ellie/OC
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00618
*Quote* "I have never felt right. I think I have always known this about myself, and suppressing it was hard, and took suppressing all of it, suppressing everything. I have been holding my breath for fourteen years, waiting to feel normal. So, I didn't think I'd ever find that, that thing you talked about like it was everything."
This story is near the end of a series, but I want to recommend it separately. It's mostly about coming out, to other people, but also to yourself. The rest of the series is worth your time, but this story really has something to say. You can find the previous stories on the author's site, or here: http://www.ashesofoldlovers.net/worldscollide.html
Deus Ex Machina by Silvia
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Harry/Draco

Draco's got a foolproof, long-ranging plan and he's thought of EVERYTHING. Bizarre, cute, and hilarious.
The Crush Trilogy by zahra
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00620
What is a crush supposed to be called when it's returned? Bizarrely hilarious, almost stream-of-conciousness Harry, and the many unusual properties of strawberry jam.
If you give a Duncan a Methos by chelle
Series: Highlander
Pairing: D/M
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00621
This will probably be much more amusing if you've read the kids book If You Give a Mouse A Cookie, or one of its sequels, by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond. Totally silly, but definitly not for kids.
White Horses by Sleeps With Coyotes
Series: Highlander
Pairing: Duncan/Methos
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00622
"Methos faces an unavoidable Challenge, and Duncan gets one last chance to salvage his relationship with the other man." An interesting take on the immortal stuff. Read the sequel, All Souls, too.
Lust Over Pendle by A.J. Hall
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Drac/Neville
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00623
Beware, this is an ebook, not just a fic. And the quality of the writing justifies the length. Lust Over Pendle is a comedy of manners set in the Golden Age detective thriller genre, and is presumed to take place after the end of the seventh Harry Potter book, and, therefore, after the fall of Voldemort. The slash is fairly discreet, despite the title. A classic of the fandom.
Draco Malfoy and the Heart of Slytherin by Sabershadowkat
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00624
Long, involved action/adventure that manages one of the most plausible transitions from hated enemies to friends to lovers I've seen. Rather a lot of wish fulfillment in plot department, but still a decent story.
I'm Not My Brother's Keeper by Anonymous
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Fred/George. twincest. yes, I know

Rec ID: 00625
Maybe the twins aren't as similar as everyone thinks.
Somewhat angsty. Simple, elegant, beautiful.

A CAREER IN THE (EVIL) ARTS: A DRACO/SNAPE STORY.
MOSTLY. SORT OF.

"I'm evil, he told himself repeatedly. Very evil. I turned Blaise into a teddy bear. I'm the evilest."

Everyone at Hogwarts is totally insane.
Bloody by Jane St. Clair
Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Spike/Xander
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00644
Dark!! An brutal picture of Spike, as an old vampire. Honest, touching, and like the title says - bloody.
And Now For Something Completely Different by Silvia
Series: Harry Potter

Harry turns into a girl. No,you don't understand. A GIRL.
The Courtship of Harry Potter by Diana Williams
Series: Harry Potter
Pairing: Harry/Snape
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00650
What if the Wizard world had certain... hold-overs from Ancient Greece? Diana answers a rather strange and detailed challenge in which Harry becomes involved in the odd courtship ritual with the new Dark Arts teacher and a reluctant Snape. Funny and charming. Read the linked history article! It's a interesting dose of reality for us slash freaks.
World's Finest by 'rith
Series: Batman
Pairing: Robin(Tim)/Superboy
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00651
The saga of two teenaged crime-fighters with distinctly different styles. All of 'rith's fic is worth a look, but this is one of her best. It's better written than Sea and Sky (probably because it's just her) and much neater. Plus, I just love Tim and Kon.
Flesh and Bone by Janete
Series: X-Men
Pairing: Rogue/Marrow
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00652
Vocational training is good for *everyone*... The intense frustrations of two inherently untouchable characters... the psychology of touch. Ravishingly sexy, and appealing even to someone who generally finds femslash alien and unbelievable.
The Maiden Voyage of the Tiresias by shalott
Series: Sherlock Holmes
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00653
Holmes indulges in rather undignifined games, but Watson isn't as clueless as he looks. Wonderful language, as always with shalott.
A Marrying Man by Kristophine
Series: Sherlock Holmes
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00654
An ending for the Milverton case that includes Holmes taking the opportunity to reveal a new truth to Watson.
Awakening by Ashura
Series: The Dark is Rising
Pairing: Bran/Will

Loneliness, friendship, love and High Magic--a match even for the power of the Light. And if Bran remembers, Will won't have to be alone anymore.
Summer's Men by Kest
Series: The Dark is Rising
Pairing: Will/Bran

Will goes back to Wales to see Bran, eight years after Silver on the Tree.
September Song by Natalka
Series: The Dark is Rising
Pairing: Will/Bran
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00657
Bran and Will come down the mountain. Wonderfully subtle, evoking mood and scene with economy of words, and the end is like a window opening.
Hurricane Jack by Shrift
Series: Pirates of the Carribbean
Pairing: Jack/Will
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00658
In which Will Turner most emphatically does not avoid familiarity with pirates, Captain Jack Sparrow cheats in his infamous and fabulous fashion, vast quantities of rum lead to drunkenness and debauchery, and there are no silly nautical euphemisms for sex (so long as the barnacles don't count).
The Thinner the Skin by Jane St. Clair
Series: The West Wing
Pairing: Josh/Sam
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00659
Of couches and expensive suits, with some mention of madness. Lazy and rich, wanders over the boys' history without urgency.
Hey by Alestar
Series: X-men
Pairing: M/Jubilee
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00661
Monet is rather... reserved. Jubilee is not. Makes for an interesting relationship, hey?
The Martian Manlove Series by Chicago
Series: Batman
Pairing: Batman/Martian Manhunter
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00663
Umm. How to describe 40+ stories, rangeing from angsty moments to action epics to PWPs... And all of it's GOOD. The first few fics focus on the unlikely relationship between Bats and MM, but the series goes on to explore the Batfamily and all it's sattelite members in loving detail. Slips into domestic!fic at times, but the wonderful action/adventure episodes balance it out. Chicago has a great feel for the Bat 'verse.
Floating World and A Warm Place by Jane St. Clair
Series: Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
Pairing: Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00664
Jane St. Clair writes astoundingly lovely fic. These are very gentle, and only discretely slashy, but I love them for the sense of... respect? that she brings to the Jedi.
Beneath by Te
Series: Batman
Pairing: Robin(Dick)/Batman
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00665
Masks, and psychology, and. Wow. This is not a happy take on Bats, don't expect fluff, but he's not *that* psycho. We think.
Shadow of the Bat by Te
Series: Batman
Pairing: Urgk. you can't call them *pairings*, really
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00666
This is. Disturbing. And horribly, plausibly, awful. NOT for the faint of heart.
Authors note: See, once upon a time people used to talk a lot about how Professor Xavier was a cult leader. And then Dr. Benway wrote a little story called X-Manson, where Xavier really *was* a cult leader. It was a very, very good story. The stuff which nightmares are made on.
So then I started thinking about Batman. About the
things people -- people like me -- said about Batman.
And I wrote this story.
Yes, I'm in therapy.
No, I don't live near you.
Iconic by Te & Jack
Series: Batman
Pairing: Batman/Nightwing
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00667
Wow. This is... seriously amazing. Te has a handle on not quite normal psychology that makes for very real characters. Gotham's architecture and *seriously* non-verbal comminication.
And in the Darkness Bind You by Greywolf
Series: Star Trek
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00668
Painfully clear rendering of Spock-angst. Earth-shattering things happen in the dark. As far as I'm concerned, one of the classics of slash.
Learning to Lose by Justine
Series: Batman
Pairing: Bruce/Dick Dick/Barbara
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00676
Beautiful angst. Intense, tangled relationships. This is a series of vignettes, and hasn't come to a real stopping point, but the writing is wonderful, and everyone is just so terribly *human*. If you just want some fun batty-ness, Acrobat is wonderful and innocent of angstyness.
The Word Withheld by J S Cavalcante
Series: Star Trek
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00688
Spock realizes his oath to Starfleet and his service aboard the Enterprise are in jeopardy because he has denied to himself—and withheld from Kirk—a certain truth about the nature of the Vulcan relationship called "t’hy’la." Wonderfully Vulcan.

Waters of Life and Death. by Basingstoke
Series: Highlander, X-files
Pairing: Methos/Krycek/Macleod (not necessarily in that order)
Submitted by: drannoc
Rec ID: 00732
Highlander. X-Files. History. Religion. Gods and monsters and most of all *Methos*. Living and fighting and loving and dying and then getting up to do it again. Whether he's any wiser for it or not.

As always with Basingstoke, not for the faint of heart.
Lunar Eclipse In G Minor by Wax Jism

Okay, here we go: This guy walks into a bar...
Ray Kowalski walked into a bar. It was just a bar, pretty nondescript - From the top: This guy walks into a gay bar ...
Once more, with feeling. Ray Kowalski walks into a gay bar for the first time in many moons, with the intent of getting laid.
::::

Why was I driven, cackling gleefuly, to rec this particular fic among the piles of really pretty good DS fic I've been wallowng in? One word: voice.
This is a really fine example of something all too rare among writers - real storytelling. Not *narrative* - this is not a slam to those prefer a more distant style - but story*tell*ing.
